Corporate Ethics Issues Affecting Various Organizations - 550 Words

Corporate Ethics Issues Affecting Various Organizations (Coursework Sample) Content: Corporate Ethics: IntegrityNameInstitutional AffiliationDateCorporate Ethics: IntegrityEthical issues affecting any organization are determined by the rights, duties, and responsibilities that an organization has in fulfilling the needs of the employees, customers, and the needs of its immediate environment (Brown, 2006). Corporate ethics is therefore considered to be a form of professional business ethics. Primarily such ethical requirements are required to control the moral and the ethical problems that may arise within a business setting. In the same way, good corporate practices and policies are called for to help in curbing the negative effects of lack of adequate ethical standards in an organizational setting (Pinchot, Pinchot, 1997). One of the corporate ethical topics that a business has to deal with is the subject of integrity.Integrity is necessary for any business operation since the lack of trust among employees, and the management may result in reduced p erformance. Duggar (2011) defines integrity as the system of principles that guides how an individual behaves. The rewards of integrity can be felt by the person himself or herself. Correspondingly, integrity is considered to be an individuals choice rather than an obligation and therefore it cannot be forced or determined by external factors. Integrity, to a larger extent, is determined by the exposure and the upbringing of an individual (Duh, Belak, 2009). Integrity has become a critical component of the modern corporate setting due to the requirement by managers and employers for high standards of performance and consistency (Byrne, 2002). Such values can define integrity as objectivity, loyalty, dependability, honesty, and respect for other principles. Additionally, integrity is considered to be a professional and personal asset that the employees get to use each day they report to work.In the light of this, it is eminent that both integrity and corporate ethics share a dynamic relationship where each of the two is necessary for strengthening or reinforcing the other (Duggar, 2011). For this reason, the lack of integrity among the management and the employees would result in failure of the business as a whole. Good corporate ethics encourage integrity in all sectors of operation (Brown, 2006). Developing high levels of integrity at a personal level means that an individual is in a position to align his or her performance to the ethical standards set by an organization. This affirms to the need of integrity as a moral requirement in the corporate world. Therefore, it would be substantial for any team to work towards maintaining the levels of integrity among all of its employees. An organization should be in a position where it can identify the clear signs that indicate the presence of the lack of integrity among its workforce. Employees should go through an evaluation on a regular basis, and their self-esteem boosted through various reward methods to improv e their confidence and integrity (Pinchot, G., Pinchot, 1997). By maintaining high levels of integrity, an organization can develop trust which acts as the basis of collaborative and interpersonal relationships. Other ways of improving integrity in an organization are by encouraging participation and feedback that are essential in articulating the culture of the business and its performance (Byrne, 2002).Regardless of the efforts that might be put forward by the organization to maintain employee integrity, lack of this critical ethical issue has grounded the operations of most organizations thereby interfering wit...

Cooking Equals Art free essay sample

Cooking equals art You know the saying â€Å"The Way To A Man’s Heart is Through His Stomach†, well I think everyone would agree with me when I say the way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach. Cooking has to be done during one’s life time; it is not something that can be easily avoidable. It’s something many people do on regular basics and has become an expert in. What you do every day consider art. Art can be acknowledged as something that is created and then just consumed. Yes. Cooking is art because cooking is doing something that you do repeatedly, and have a general or higher knowledge in. Cooking takes you to the highest of the high. Exactly what is cooking? Something so essential has a very simple meaning. It is the time process of food preparation through applied heat. While cooking, a person has to keep in mind a lot of other factors that finally lead to the product of making delicious food. We will write a custom essay sample on Cooking Equals Art or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Art according to the OED is the skills of doing something that you have had knowledge of or practice. (Art) Comparing that to cooking, we can easily pop in cooking where art is and say; cooking according to the OED is the skills of doing something that you have had knowledge of or practice. That however is not true for both of those statements because one man’s masterpiece of art can be 5 dramatic lines on a canvas, while one man’s masterpiece of cooking can just be a plate with steak, peas and cranberry sauce. The assortment and place of the line and food on a plate though would be considering art. Our ancient ancestors first discovered that heat could be applied to make food taste better. This was the evolution of cooking. Cooking has not become extinct, now over tens of thousands of years later. Rather than that it has grown into variations and forms that are extremely creative in expression and infinite. According to the latest paleo-archeological information, the oldest art was created by humans during the prehistoric Stone Age, between 300,000 and 700,000 years ago. (Visual Arts) Most anthropologists believe that cooking fires began only about 250,000 years ago. Primatologist Richard Wrangham suggested that cooking was invented as far back as 1. 8 million to 2. 3 million years ago. (The Executives Stulum). Only 50,000 years apart, cooking first, art and cooking were very close in relation. The diversity of location was a major play in why cooking styles, techniques, and even food was different. Due to diverse ecosystems and climates early civilization had to use the resources and technologies that were available locally. The Chinese, as an example, developed wok cooking as an answer to the scarcity of firewood. By cooking over a small hot flame and stirring constantly to prevent burning the food, the use of fuel was maximized. (Art Form). Just how art was forming 50,000 years later due to the location art was also different in parts of the world just like cooking. Food can be considered as an art; for example: the decoration of a food, the way a food is constructed in the plates, or even the way many different foods are being mixed in order to create a new food. Sometimes even people consider the arrangement of plates in a table as an art. This is called Table Art. Brillat-Savarin in his book, â€Å"The physiology of taste† states that cooking is the oldest of all arts. He says that Adam was born hungry and even a new born child first looks for become feed by his nurse right after he comes to new world (Physiology of taste, 300). He also believes that cooking and food is the finest art that has had the most influence on humans’ civilization (300). Food is one of the fewest things in the whole world that almost everyone becomes satisfied with. When people eat, a kind of satisfaction and pleasure makes them happy. But happy is not the only expression connected with food you have happy, disgust, anger, delighted and many more. Everybody is different and just how one dish can make a person happy by it, it can make another person disgusted by it. Everyone would get their very different experience, just how you would look at art and experience a different reaction. Whereas you look at a bright painting and feel intrigued but the person next to you is confused. In art you need your utensils to create a piece of work. The same rule applies in cooking. Yes in cooking you don’t need to use any other instruments to help you cook other than your hands which by the way brings out the artist ability right there. But you can prepare the food to get that extraordinary flavor. A good cook is also a creative one. He or she is not afraid of trying new ways and exploring new methods. He or she has an experimental mind that is coupled with a good sense of taste. The problem is that, because of the experimental nature of the work, the process of creating a masterpiece can get lost in the act of creation. However, the process of creating a culinary masterpiece does not stop there. There must also be a stage of ever refinement to the basic process. For example, should less sugar be added? Should I add more spices? Should I lower the temperature of the heat? These are little adjustments to the process that will turn a recipe from being â€Å"just OK† to â€Å"excellent. †(Art Form) For that, a good cook is not only a creative one. He or she is the master of their masterpiece. The ability to improve upon an old recipe or create an exciting new recipe is a talent a very special few can accomplish with little or no training, but almost anybody with the proper training and a genuine interest in excellent food and its preparation can become an exceptional imaginative chef. Cooking is something that cannot be learnt. In art the qualities of a cook must be ingrained in a person. But that does not mean that you cannot learn a few scrumptious dishes.

Main Differences Between Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois [Essay]

Contrary to the present peaceful coexistence state of all American citizens socially, economically, and politically, in the past, the whites segregated individuals of the African-American origin. Therefore, because of the white supremacy, the Negros had no say, even in issues that concerned their lives; hence, the nature of suffering this community endured in the hands of the whites.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Main Differences Between Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois [Essay] specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The African-American cries for freedom from segregation, indiscriminate killings, deprivation of their fundamental rights, and mob Violence hit a snag because the whites considered Negros as subhuman beings. Because of the worsening condition, Negros sought ways of freeing themselves from such extreme suffering, leading to the rising of two influential Negro leaders, namely Booker T and W.E.B Dubois (Gibson Para. 1-3). Although these two leaders shared a common agenda and agreed on the idea of saving the African-Americans from segregation and extreme suffering, there was a difference between booker t washington’s and w.e.b dubois’Â   ideological approaches to the problem. How Did the Views of Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois Differ? According to Booker T Washington’s biography, he was born a slave in 1856 and later became an advocate for Black Progress. He believed that the gradualist economic approach was the only method that could guarantee Negros freedom, an idea that Dubois dismissed. According to him, regardless of the economic riches and education that Negros obtained under submission to the whites, there is no way whites were to give them freedom, and consequently, his gradualist political policy. The central theme of Dubois’s ideology was that African-Americans had to demand and fight for their freedom. There is no way their white opp ressors could leave their slaves to leave (Gibson Para. 1-6). Because of the respect that the whites accorded Booker T having worked with them and showed loyalty to them for a long time, Booker T held the notion that, through foregoing their cries for freedom, social equality, and fundamental liberties, the whites could offer Black Americans some industrial-agricultural training and employment opportunities. Through the expertise learned from the training and jobs, African-Americans were eventually to gain the respect of whites, and consequently, the eventual granting of their civil liberties. To Booker T Washington, the gaining economic independence and respectability were of greater significance than fighting for civil rights through forceful means, which African-Americans had no guarantee that they could win (Henry 1). Difference Between Washington’s and Dubois’ Beliefs Generally, Booker T’s strategy laid more emphasis on blacks accepting and accommodating th e white cruelty and supremacy as this was the only primary method of ensuring a mutual interdependence relationship developed between African-Americans and whites. Although Booker acknowledged that such a connection could not clear the social differences between these two American groups, the association could guarantee mutual economic development of both groups and the joint release of blacks from suffering (Smock 7-19).Advertising Looking for essay on african american? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Despite similarities between Booker T Washington’s and W.E.B. Dubois’ sentiments that blacks were suffering and that economic independence was necessary for the rise of the black community, Dubois greatly opposed the submission issue. Because of the little gain, Booker T’s strategy gained African-Americans, Dubois advocated for the formation of social liberties organizations to fight for the Blacks’ r ights. According to Dubois’ philosophy, although education was important in liberating the blacks, there was a need for political action and constant agitation, as it was the only way of forcing the whites to surrender some power. To be politically competent and elevate the social status of the blacks’ needs, Dubois further emphasized the importance of Blacks studying liberal arts in colleges, instead of only industrial-agricultural studies. Therefore, although Dubois accepted some of Bookers’ ideas, he believed that Booker T’s ideology never gave a concrete solution to the Race problem (Dawkins 1). Booker T Washington vs W.E.B. Dubois: Essay Conclusion In conclusion, if to compare and contrast their accomplishments and impact on society, it is clear that these two prominent African-American leaders had one agenda of helping blacks gain their freedom and civil liberties, their strategies varied. Booker believed in submission to the white supremacy, a case that Dubois opposed with his political strategy. Works Cited Dawkins, Sabrina. Deromanticizing Black History W.E.B. 1984 Essays (1436 words) - Novels By George Orwell, Free Essays

1984 Essays (1436 words) - Novels By George Orwell, Free Essays 1984 George Orwell has been a major contributor to anticommunist literature around the World War II period. Orwell lived in England during World War II, a time when the Totalitarianism State, Nazi Germany, was at war with England and destroyed the city of London. (DISC) "I know that building' said Winston finally. It's a ruin now. It's in the middle of the street outside the Palace of Justice. 'That's right. Outside the Law Courts. It was bombed in-oh many years ago.'" (Orwell 83). The main character's being reflects Orwell's own life experiences as a citizen in war torn England and how he uses this in 1984. George Orwell is famous for two major novels, which attack totalitarianism. The first is Animal Farm a satire describing the leaders of the Soviet Union as animals on an animal farm. The second novel is 1984 a story of dictators who are in complete control of a large part of the world after the Allies lost in World War II. The government in this novel gives no! freedoms to its citizens. They live in fear because they are afraid of having bad thoughts about the government of Oceania, a crime punishable by death. By employing literary devices such as diction, foreshadowing, and symbolism, Orwell composes a novel "1984" which proves to be a gem in Orwell's collection of novels against totalitarianism. Orwell wrote 1984 as a political statement against totalitarianism. Orwell's word choice drives the plot of the story in that they introduce a new dimension, a world where everything takes place in a modern controlled society. The phrase "Newspeak" was created by Orwell to describe a derivation of the English language, which this new world uses to communicate, and to represent of authoritative dialogue which takes place throughout the novel. (Meckier) Another phrase chosen by Orwell to illustrate the new controlled society is "double-think", a word which is part of the "Newspeak" language.. He chooses to use another made up expression to further enhance the atmosphere which does not allow for an individual to "think twice" about what the government expresses. "It was a bright, cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen." (Orwell 5) Orwell carefully selects the words for this sentence and chooses to introduce the story in the past tense, as though all things have already occurred. This suggests that the narrator has already l! ived through the actions that take place in this book and is only describing his memory. (Lawrimore) If Orwell had written this book in present tense, the opportunity to foreshadow to such an extent would have been dramatically cut down. In Orwell's above sentence, the word "thirteen" is used as an alternative to "one" to describe the time. By choosing to use the word "thirteen" Orwell portrays the society to be one which is altered and possibly of military control. "I wanted to rape you and then murder you afterwards. Two weeks ago I thought seriously of smashing your head in with a cobblestone. If you really want to know, I imagined that you had something to do with the Thought Police" (Orwell 101). The choice of words here is so very descriptive that you, the reader, can actually feel the atmosphere, which the characters dwell in. This exercises the belief that Orwell does indeed realize the power of language and words, which should never be underestimated. (Lawrimo! re) "The way something is stated can affect the connotation of the whole passage, and it is quite possible that sometime, somewhere, it will be a bright, cold day in April and the clocks will be striking thirteen." (Lawrimore) Each statement Orwell makes in this novel symbolizes a great deal more than what its face value suggests for the purpose of exhibiting his deeper, personal beliefs on totalitarianism. "It was a bright, cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen." (Orwell 5) 1984 begins with a powerful first sentence, which provides many hints about a demented society. This first sentence allows for the reader to make his / her opinions without further reading any additional words. Orwell chooses to use the word "thirteen" opposed to "one" to possibly suggest a military like society or even
